Once Upon a Time

I know, this is a little late but whatever...

I cannot express how excited I was for Once Upon A Time. Of course, I've kind of been excited for all the fairy tale story line shows that are coming out [Grimm] but this one especially. It is just such a new and different take on the tales. I've always been a lover of the fairy tales, whether Grimm or Disney.

Here is a link to the ABC website where you can watch the first episode of Once Upon A Time. If you don't want to be spoiled to the first episode, don't keep reading... You've been warned.

-SPOILER-

The story opens to the ending of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with Snow White being kissed by Prince Charming and a wedding. Very cutesy... until the Evil Queen. Who comes baring a gift, similarly to Sleeping Beauty. The Prince gets rid of the unwelcomed guest by throwing a sword at her, which fails because she goes poof...

And then you see a kid reading the story we just saw. He's pretty youngish and has the look of knowing way more than he should... And then gets a  cab with a credit card.... Wait? Shouldn't the cabbie be wondering why a kid has a credit card and is looking for a taxi late at night? ...

Either way, we hop to someone named Emma [House's Jennifer Morrison] who is going into a rather nice restaurant. She has a date.... With a guy whom she helped bail out as a bail bonds woman. And she's looking to get paid... And is pissed with what he has done to his poor wife. Either way, she goes home, makes  a birthday wish [cause it's her birthday]. Conveniently, her door bell rings and guess who it is? Random child from earlier. His name is Henry... And apparently he's Emma's child that she gave up years ago. And he's come to find her.

Flashback to our fairy tale. Snow White and Prince Charming are disturbed... And Snow White is all "I want to know WTF the biatch is doing?" Oh and she's pretty much ready to have a baby. So they go to the only man who knows anything about anything... Rumplestiltskin. But he's a shady character and once he knows your name, he has power over you [I'm thinking by "power" they mean he can see your future or something]. So, Snow White and Prince Charming go to see him... But for the information, Rumplestiltskin wants the name of the child. Snow White agrees [even if Prince Charming doesn't, you know, they've had at least 9 months to learn the art of communication...].

And so we find out that the Evil Queen is getting a curse ready, to imprison everyone to a horrible place where time doesn't move. And the only one who can save them all? The unborn babe. On the child's 28th birthday... Hm... Birthday... Convenient... Anyway, we learn that the baby is a girl... And her name is EMMA!

And so we go back to Emma and Henry, who are travelling to Storybrooke [where Henry lives]. Except the boy won't reveal specifics... Except about the story, which he tells her that all of the characters are stuck in this town and how they can't leave and how time is stopped at 8:15 [dunno if that's AM or PM because we see the time stopped on a analog clock]...

And before we can find out anymore, a crazy [ginger?] man comes and talks to them [cause they are stopped on a road and outside]. He has a dalmation! <3 Apparently he's a shrink... And Henry's shrink... And he's apparently Jiminy Cricket in people form...

Flash to the tale side again... Annnnnd we see a round table... Full of people consulting on what to do about the Evil Queen?! Wow, how very forward thinking of them. Not only that but Snow White is at the table to boot? That's definitely kind of awesome. And here are the opinions on the table

Prince Charming: Fight the biatch. And we can beat her. Our child is the savor.
Jiminy Cricket: Uh... not a good idea. Fighting is not cool.
Doc: Can we trust that creepy Rumplestiltskin?
Snow White: Ugh, we're doomed... The future is written blah blah blah
Fairies: Super tree! It wards off bad things... Except only holds 1 person. No exceptions.

Back to reality! We find out that Henry doesn't like his adopted mommy dearest. She's the mayor btw. Oh, and he says she doesn't love him [it's an act]... And she strangely looks like a certain fairy tale character *coughEvilQueencough*. Also, the attractive Sheriff is at the Mayor's house... Mmmmm... More eye candy please... I mean, he seems to know how to do his job...

Anyway, Miss Mayor and Emma have a drink *insert convenient red apples on table in this scene*. And the Mayor wants to make sure she has nothing to worry about with Emma [wanting Henry back or whatever]. And we learn that the Mayor knows nothing about the story book that Henry has. Either way, they wrap up and Emma starts heading out of town...

In which we get a glimpse of some distracted driving when Emma notices that Henry left his book. When Emma looks back to the road *BAM* Wolf [and thank goodness, not the Twilight kind]. She swerves and hits the "Welcome to Storybrooke" sign *coughsymbolismcough*.

Heading back to the castle, we see Gepetto and Pinocchio work away on the magic tree. Charming and Snow are chatting about how Snow has to be the one to go into the magic tree cupboard/whatever... When the baby makes it's presence known... And wants out! And at the same time, the curse be coming!

And back to reality... Emma wakes up... In a jail cell? We see our Sheriff and another man [real life Gepetto] and another man in the cell. Either way, we don't get long with any of these new people because Miss Mayor comes back because Henry has run away [again]. Emma agrees to try and find him for getting released from jail [btw, she was there because the Sheriff smelled the liquor she had that night at Miss Mayor's house].

So Emma goes through Henry's computer, finding out he used a credit card to find out who she was [Because the adoption was a closed one and Emma didn't want him to find her]. And the credit card belongs to.... Mary Margaret Blanchard.... Who looks exactly like Snow [and I know, we all get it at this point, counter parts and such]. She is Henry's teacher... And apparently, she can just hold bright blue birds and whatnot... Totally normal... And totally acceptable to be doing in a classroom [which is where we go to next].

And Miss Mayor arrives and asks "Where's my son?" And naturally, Ms. Blanchard knows nothing about anything. Especially that she made a donation to Henry's search. We also learn that she is the one who gave Henry the book! We have a little awkward bonding moment between Emma and Mary Margaret Blanchard.

Flash to Snow having the babe. She's trying to hold off, but it's not possible... And the Evil Queen is on her way! And Snow is all "We must send the baby through" and Charming is all "Noooooo!" and Snow is all "Best chance and all." And so Charming takes off with baby Emma in one hand and a sword in the other. Talk about some skillful sword wielding... I mean, He has a BABY in his hands! And he sends her off to safety... Right before being stabbed. Not cool evil knight. Not cool. Oh and Snow was sobbing over having to give up the babe.

Real world scene: Eventually, Emma finds Henry at "his castle." And they have a moment... And best chance stuff for Henry and what not. And the boy asks for one week. And we learn a little bit about Emma [left on side of road, had a home for until she was 3 years and then back into the foster system].

And back to Snow... Who finds her beloved Charming stabbed and... well, essentially dead. And the Evil Queen comes for her happy ending. And Snow finds out her babe got away! Hurray!... Except now everyone is going somewhere horrible... Absolutely horrible. *dark clouds and lots of sparkly glitter swirl around*

Back to Emma and Henry. She drops him back home and has a talk with Miss Mayor... And gives a little too much information about her birthday wish, which was to not be alone anymore. Well, Miss Mayor lays down the law and basically says "You aren't really welcomed here. I've been accommodating so far now get lost. He's my child."

In which Emma's only response is "Do you love him?" And Miss Mayor says "Of course I love him." What I failed to mention earlier was that Emma has this ability... She can tell when people are lying...

From there, we move to the hospital, where Mary Margaret is putting flowers on bedside tables... And one of these bedside tables is next to a man who appears to be in a coma... Oh snap! RL Charming?! What what?

Flash back to Emma... Who is at Granny's Bed and Breakfast? [btw, she had to go through quite a bit of bramble]. And we hear Granny fighting with a woman [granddaughter?]... And granddaughter puts on a red hooded cape/thing! We also see the RL Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold and apparently, he owns the town... Either way, we find out that Emma plans on staying for a week... Just a week...*cough*

And we see Henry looking at the clock... Which has moved forward a minute! The battle begins!

And that's it. This Sunday is suppose to be more about how Snow White and Prince Charming met, which I think will be interesting. For all those interested in watching

  1. This sunday is Evil Queen. Third episode is first meetings. Red Riding Hood's name is Ruby! and the prison guy was Grumpy the dwarf (nothing small about him).
