Neverland [SyFy mini series]

There may be some mild spoilers in this review. Do not continue if you want to be surprised when watching. You have been warned...

I have definitely been on a fairy tale haze, which is good because lots of fantasy shows are coming out. What I'm gonna talk about in this post is Neverland. And it is definitely worth a gander for anyone interested in the retelling of tales.

Essentially, this is a tale of how Peter Pan, the Lost Boys, Captain Hook, and the pirates came about Neverland. And it's a bit more scientific if you ask me. There have been a few versions of Peter Pan and how he came to be but I think this one definitely stands out.

It starts with Peter and his friends being in a street gang in Victorian London. They are lead by a man they call Jimmy, who is also a skilled fencer. The gang is mostly about to steal things and Jimmy gets a job where the payoff is going to be big. While initially giving this mission to the boys, he later changes his mind and takes it for himself, saying it's too dangerous for the boys. Peter is a little too prideful and tricks his friends into taking on the mission, despite Jimmy's word.

Either way, this is the heist to end all heist. Apparently, they are to steal a magical orb. And apparently, when this orb is struck, it takes you and anyone/thing close enough [it depends on how hard to hit it] with you to a magical land, Neverland.

From there, you follow the story of the boys adventure in Neverland. We meet the Indian tribe and see the vicious crocodiles [for there are way more than one]. And you learn that Jimmy's full name is James Hook. And the pirates are lead by a woman! Of course, she's a crazy woman looking for power over the island and is obsessed with the mineral dust [AKA fairy dust], which is unusable to humans unless bequeathed by fairies [which you find out in part 2].

It's a tale of adventure, betrayal [lots of betrayal...], fighting, compassion, trust, and friendship.

Just to warn you, it's really like 2 somewhat low-budgeted movies. Both cap out at 2 hours long on TV [including commercials]. So definitely block off the time if you're going to watch it.

But overall, I really did like it. It was a different take on the story for me... And feeds into the fairy tale addiction I currently have. And it would be cool if they continued the story in another mini series but I'm sure they won't. Either way, SyFy hasn't been disappointing me with the fairy tales [they came out with Alice in Wonderland mini series not too long ago that I also liked]. Hopefully, they keep up the good work [minus the many flawed TV for movies they make...].
